How Long Does It Take to Charge a Battery?

 

Dragonfly Energy packs can be charged in as little as 1 hour. However, we recommended at least a 2 hour rate, because slower charging rates correlates with longer cycle life. For a 100Ah pack, a 2-hour charge rate corresponds to a 50A charging current. The correct charging algorithm for the pack is a bulk charge up to 14.4V, and an absorption charge at 14.4V. Absorption can continue for up to 2 hours, after which the charger can be disconnected or floated at 13.6V, similar to an AGM battery. The ability to charge the pack in 2 hours depends entirely on the charger’s ability to deliver 50A. For example if a 10A charger is used, the charging time will be 10 hours – but this is a limitation of the charger, not the battery.
