Can the batteries get wet?

Yes, the batteries can get wet. The case is completely sealed as are the terminal feedthroughs, so that moisture cannot penetrate the external case. However, like most batteries, ours was not designed to be submerged. In order to keep the pack as small as possible (our 100Ah 12V pack fits in a roughly Group 27 case), the density of the pack is greater than water. That means, it will sink. Moreover, submerging the battery could potentially compromise the seal and allow some leakage into the case. Leakage of water inside the battery casing could cause rapid oxidation of metal contacts within the battery. Oxidation could cause an increase in electrical resistance, significantly reducing the performance of the pack, especially at high currents. Additionally, water could compromise the battery management circuitry. No battery should be submerged.
